The first few months of Hub4Stuff have been busier than the founders ever imagined and a round up of figures illustrated the importance of the service it is offering in the Fareham and Gosport areas.

Since setting up in March 2022 the organisation has saved more than 17 tonnes of furniture from landfill – and thanks to the generosity of people these pre-loved items have found new homes with low income families – many living in furniture poverty.

The furniture team has handled more than 750 individual items of furniture and more than 250 low income individuals and families have been helped.

One of the founders, Alyson Marlow, said that both donators and recipients had benefited  from the service and this all helps create a circular economy which cuts down on waste heading to landfill.

“We knew when we set up the service that demand is high in this area for furniture but we have been overwhelmed with the response from those donating and requesting basic furniture,” she said.

“We have been fortunate that the word of our work has spread quickly and a number of grants have really helped the service get off the ground.”
